The Impressionist roster completed, and the two movements that broke furthest from what Impressionism had already broken from: Manet's scandal that made the younger painters possible, the group's own founding and its most dedicated and least rewarded members, Cezanne's withdrawal into structure, and the wild color and the deliberate anti-art that followed a generation later.
