Martha Graham was an American dancer and choreographer whose angular, contraction and release technique broke sharply from balletic tradition and became one of the founding vocabularies of American modern dance. Over a performing and choreographic career spanning more than sixty years, she built a company and a training system that shaped generations of dancers and choreographers who followed her.
