The Ardabil Carpet is the name of two matching Persian carpets, a wool pile on a silk foundation, completed around 1539-40 during the Safavid era and inscribed with the earliest date written explicitly on any known Persian carpet. The larger and better-known of the pair, roughly 34 feet by 17.5 feet, is held by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London; the second is held by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. It is widely regarded as one of the finest surviving products of classical Safavid carpet weaving.
