La Classe de Danse (The Dance Class) depicts a rehearsal at the old Paris Opera on the rue Le Peletier, with ballet master Jules Perrot presiding over young dancers at rest and in motion. It is one of Degas' earliest and most celebrated treatments of the ballet subjects he returned to for the rest of his career.
