Painted during Matisse's formative 1905 summer in Collioure, this view through an open window onto the harbor uses raw, unmixed color across every surface, interior and exterior alike, exemplifying the Fauvist approach shown at the 1905 Salon d'Automne. It was bequeathed to the National Gallery of Art, Washington, in 1998.
