The Apparition (L'Apparition) is an 1876 watercolor by Gustave Moreau, now in the Musee d'Orsay in Paris, depicting Salome's vision of the severed head of John the Baptist before Herod. Its sensation at the 1876 Paris Salon made it one of the defining images of French Symbolism.
